OVERVIEW OF ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWS PROGRAM

The Senior Program Administrator for Student Development will leverage school and university-wide EDIB resources as well as partnerships with Tribal and historically Black Colleges and Universities to develop sustainable pathways, including K-12 STEM outreach, REU, and the post-baccalaureate program, broadening participation in engineering and applied sciences in accordance with the goals of the SEAS DIB Strategic plan and the Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery Report recommendations. The Senior Program Administrator will focus on strengthening K-12- to-undergraduate and undergraduate-to-Ph.D. pathways, including programs for K-12 teachers, K-12 students, undergraduates, and post-baccalaureate students. The Senior Program Administrator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading the curriculum for the Harvard SEAS K-12 STEM programs, identifying potential partnerships, and building and maintaining relationships with schools, districts, and community-based organizations that support STEM education. The Senior Program Administrator supports SEAS’ Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer programming, supporting recruitment and onboarding. The Senior Program Administrator manages the SEAS’ Post-Baccalaureate program. The Senior Program Administrator for Student Development plans and implements in-person, virtual, and hybrid events to accomplish these goals.


Position Description

  • Legacy of Slavery report as they relate to STEM academic and career pathways for historically marginalized students, from K-12 to graduate education, including:
    • Recommendation 1: Engage and Support Descendant Communities by Leveraging Harvard's Excellence in Education.
    • Recommendation 3: Develop Enduring Partnerships with Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Explore, identify, and initiate relationships with schools, districts, and community-based organizations, broadening the participation of underrepresented groups in engineering and applied sciences.
  • Develop and administer culturally competent STEM engagement programming for K-12 students and teachers to support curiosity, critical thinking, and skill building in coordination with the Director of Community Engagement and Diversity Outreach and in collaboration with SEAS research groups, as well as internal and external partners.
  • Assist with the 10-week summer Research Experience for Undergraduates, including recruitment, selection, onboarding, and development and deployment of professional development activities.
  • Collaborate in managing the day-to-day operations of the Post-Baccalaureate program, including oversight of the application and selection process, facilitating the onboarding and departure of scholars, collaborating with SEAS and GSAS partners regarding program logistics, developing and deploying EDIB professional development opportunities for scholars, and serving as a point of contact for scholars in navigating SEAS and Harvard. 
  • Establish, deploy, analyze, and report on the assessment of pathway programs.
  • Assist with grant writing to support STEM pathway programs.
  • Support SEAS ODIB’s efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming community within engineering and applied sciences at Harvard and beyond.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a one-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years' experience in a university environment or other large, complex organization. An advanced degree counts toward years of experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Master’s degree in a related field and experience in a university environment or other large, complex organizational setting is preferred. Familiarity with Next Generation Science Standards and Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Frameworks is helpful. Well-prepared candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively on multiple tasks, proven experience in supervising student staff, and event and project management. Excellent oral and written presentation skills including comfort as a public speaker. Demonstrated experience creating and conducting training and development initiatives. Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods. Commitment to staying current on issues of diversity and inclusion and STEM education. Willingness and ability to work occasional nights and weekends, as well as travel locally and within the United States required.

Working Conditions

The work is performed in an office environment. This position will travel between our Allston and Cambridge campuses. Shuttle service is available between the two campuses during weekday business hours. Willingness and ability to work occasional nights and weekends, as well as travel locally and within the United States, including travel to Boston area K-12 schools for various outreach events is required.

    • This position will be based in Allston, MA. An on-campus presence is required. The on campus presence frequency may fluctuate, and will be dictated by the programs and events this position supports.
