The Administrative Assistant for the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice and the Department of Social Sciences & History provides advanced and diversified secretarial and administrative support services to Department Chairs and Deputy Chairs, and to the faculty. Responsibilities include coordination of daily office activity; communicating office policies, procedures and practices to the university community; monitoring and maintaining various fiscal records; computerized data management; use of electronic mail; compiling information for research; and coordinating various special projects as assigned. The incumbent also provides support for new initiatives and interdisciplinary programs including, but not limited to the MA in Criminal Justice, MA in Political Science, BA/MA in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies Minor, Computer Forensics Minor, and the Social Justice Advocacy Minor.

Required Qualifications:

1. Completion of commercial courses related to secretarial, general office and administrative skills, or demonstrated equivalency through work experience.

2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in an administrative environment including office oversight and coordination responsibilities, and experience with fiscal record keeping. Prior college/university experience a plus.

3. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, and figure aptitude.

4. Computer proficiency for word processing, spreadsheets, and data management. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) preferred. Experience with Datatel a plus.

5. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
