The Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) is the University’s learning assistance center. CAPS houses a Math/Science program, an Online Program, a Learning Strategies program, the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, and a Writing and Language Center. A dynamic, interactive, student-centered organization, CAPS employs 150 students as Tutors, SI Leaders, Student Resource Representatives, Student Managers, and Assistant Coordinators and serves over 6,000 individual students each year for more than 48,000 contact hours. CAPS is an extremely fast-paced job environment with many locations, student employees, and student users to oversee.
Performs and oversees a variety of associated administrative, and staff support, in collaboration with the Associate Director and the staff that run each of CAPS’ programs. Frequently organizes resources and participates in planning complex projects, working on and coordinating other programmatic initiatives, operations and/or events for the department. Uses independent judgment in problem-solving of complex operating issues and serves as primary administrative and operational liaison with internal and external department/agencies. Provides administrative assistance with student searches, as appropriate, to include logging employment applications; preparing applicant acknowledgements and interview documents, coordinating interview logistics. Communicates with faculty to coordinate and schedule CAPS class visits. Coordinates outreach for the department; participates in student orientation activities, presentations and tabling. Assists with student employee training, communicating with student employees, managing online training modules, and tracking student tutor certification.
