Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (McGeorge), invites applications for one or more part-time faculty positions in its Public Policy Program. The Program offers both the Master of Public Administration (MPA) and Master of Public Policy (MPP) degrees. Founded in 2016, it is the first program in the nation to offer these degrees within an ABA accredited law school. The Program’s adjunct faculty offer a wealth of practical experience and special expertise to our students, drawing on decades of professional experience and past graduate education. In Fall 2022, the programs shifted to a hybrid format with courses offered in a combination of in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
The Program seeks adjunct faculty to teach the following courses in the Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 semesters:
  • Values, Roles and Skills (online)
  • Leadership and Organization Behavior (in-person or hybrid, spring semester only)

Values, Roles and Skills is the introductory course for both MPA and MPP students typically taken during students first semester in the program. We plan to offer the course fully online in Fall 2023 and possibly in Spring 2023 if demand is sufficient.
Leadership and Organization Behavior is a required course for MPA students, and an elective for MPP students, that is typically taken in a student’s second or third semester. The course is currently scheduled to meet primarily in-person on seven (7) full Saturdays from January to April in the Spring 2023 semester. Shifting this course to a hybrid format by moving some of the Saturday sessions online is negotiable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy or related field.
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in public administration or public policy, including work experience with a public agency, consultancy or non-profit working in a public service area.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the class subject area.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate teaching experience in Public Administration, Public Policy or related area.
  • Leadership and management experience in a public service setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in education and public service settings.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
