Job Summary:
The Fairleigh Dickinson University Department of Literature, Languages, Writing, and Humanities is looking for part-time (adjunct) faculty to teach in-person sections of Ethics and possibly other Philosophy courses starting in Fall 2022. Sections are 3 credit hours and meet Monday-Thursday, Tuesday-Friday, or as a double block on different days including Wednesday. You can teach one course or several. If you are successful in the position, teaching should be available every semester going forward.
Our immediate need for Fall 2022 (semester starting August 29, see https://www.fdu.edu/academics/academic-calendar/ ) is two sections of Ethics, Monday and Thursday 10:00 AM – 11:15 AM and 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM Eastern. These are scheduled to meet in person on our Florham Campus at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison NJ, but for an exceptional candidate we could explore moving them online.
Ethics is a Gen Ed requirement at FDU: all our students have to take it. We are looking for someone who can teach the subject responsibly, from a philosophical standpoint, but in a way that is interactive, engaging, relevant to students’ lives, and maybe even fun.
The ideal candidate would have a PhD in Philosophy with specialization in ethics. We will be happy to consider you if you have any advanced degree in Philosophy or a related field, even if you are currently in graduate school, as long as you have experience with ethics or moral philosophy and can show some evidence of excellence in teaching. If you have a background in Theology or religious instruction, you are welcome to apply as long as you appreciate that FDU is not religiously affiliated and any teaching you do for us should not advance any particular religious viewpoint.
