Adjunct Professor of English and Writing Skills

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law is seeking to recruit a diverse pool of individuals who would be interested in serving as part-time adjunct faculty to serve as the Adjunct Professor of English Writing Skills at Barry Law will work part time (approximately 10 hours a week) to support students with improving their English writing skills. Because this adjunct professor specializes in English writing skills, they work with students solely on their writing skills, like grammar, proofreading, etc. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The job responsibilities of the Adjunct Professor of English Writing Skills include the following:

  •  Holding office hours and scheduling appointments, approximately 10 hours each week, during the morning, afternoon, and evening to accommodate student schedules. Some weeks may require slightly more or slightly less time, depending upon student needs.

  • Meeting with students one-to-one to help students develop strategies for identifying errors in their writing, learn proper grammar and sentence structure, and develop new writing techniques and strategies for different writing situations.

  • Leading grammar workshops each semester. Grammar workshops should be video recorded, and attendance must be taken and provided to professors.

  •  Coordinating workshop time and location with student course schedules and room availability. 

  • Scheduling room reservations for any meetings or workshops that take place outside of the office location and video recording of meetings or workshops, as needed.

  • Maintaining an appointment schedule and recording notes about student meetings to assist in scaffolding their learning over time for those who seek ongoing assistance and support. 

  • Providing appointment schedule and notes to supervisor at the end of each term, as requested. 

  • Maintaining a Canvas page to provide information to interested students

  • Developing handouts, worksheets, and/or exercises to provide guidance and support for students as they work on their writing on their own.

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree required with a concentration in English or Communications preferred.

Ph.D. preferred. 

Experience in teaching or at least 5 years of relevant law-related employment. 

Commitment to the mission of the Law School and its curricular and instructional methods and goals.
