The Department of Chemistry (https://www.usfca.edu/) is seeking part-time faculty to teach laboratories and lectures in the fall semester. All courses are taught in-person, and the university has numerous precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Laboratory Instructor Positions

• CHEM 112 General Chemistry I Lab

• CHEM 232 Organic Chemistry I Lab

Lecturer Positions

• CHEM 111 General Chemistry I

• CHEM 230 Organic Chemistry I

Qualifications:

For lab instructors, PhDs and graduate students will be considered, teaching experience is not required. For lecturer positions, applicants with PhDs and teaching experience will be given preference; PhD candidates with teaching experience will be considered.

Job Responsibilities: 

Duties for General Chemistry I Lab and Organic Chemistry I Lab include attending a weekly lab instructor meeting, delivering a short pre-lab lecture, supervising students during experiments, and grading assignments. General Chemistry I Lab instructors also hold a remote two-hour office hours session per week.

Instructors for General Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry I  will be responsible for the entire class on their own. The course learning outcomes have been set by the Chemistry Department and these must be addressed in the course content. The lecturer has flexibility in how the content is delivered and how student learning is evaluated. The course textbook has been already selected, and prior syllabi and other resources are available for use.

Schedule:

The Fall 2022 classes begin August 23 and end December 7. There are no classes on Labor Day (September 5), Fall Break (October 17-18), and Thanksgiving Recess (November 24-25). Final exams end on December 15.
