The Early Childhood Education and Montessori Programs at St. Catherine University invite applications for Adjunct Lecturer positions for Summer and Fall of 2024-2025 academic year.
St. Kate’s offers different program pathways for aspiring early childhood educators to earn a primary education degree. Our faculty inspire socially aware educators to learn and implement anti-bias and anti-racist teaching strategies, create effective lesson plans, assess and manage classrooms, understand the needs of diverse and special learners, and ground their learning in Montessori philosophy. Every semester we may have opportunities for adjunct to join us as we educate women to lead and influence.
Our programs are robust and we regularly hire for adjunct positions when full-time faculty take sabbaticals, go on leave or have unexpected life events. Possible adjunct opportunities may include:
  • Supervising student teaching fieldwork
  • Instructing course in the Bachelor’s degree program like Montessori Methods courses
  • Instructing courses in the Acknowledging Montessori for a Masters (AM2) MAED program
    • Introduction to Action Research
    • Professional Growth for the Montessori Guide

Responsibilities:
  • Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in traditional, online and field environments.
  • Educate and support students in their classroom and field experiences.
  • Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities.
  • Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator, an advisor, and a mentor.
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.
  • Comply with all PELSB accreditation standards
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences.

Some adjunct roles may also include:
  • Act as an ambassador to the community for the Education Department in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences and St. Catherine University.
  • Participate in offered trainings for instructors and students.
  • Attend adjunct faculty meetings and participate in faculty development.
  • Conduct agency site-visits in the community for monitoring and evaluating student field experiences.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education
  • Three years of experience as a teacher of record
  • Experience working with non-traditional adult college students
  • Experience delivering instruction in traditional and online environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral level degree in Education or related field in order to tech AM2 and MAED courses
  • American Montessori Society (AMS) or Association Montessori International (AMI) Montessori certified
  • Five years of experience as teacher of record
  • Experience supervising and supporting teachers
  • Current or past professional license that align(s) with available courses
  • Experience teaching in a college or university setting or in field administration
  • Critical, self-reflective pedagogy, and anti-oppressive practice experience
  • Experience teaching and mentoring diverse populations
  • Past or current teaching license
