 Job Summary
The School of Kinesiology and Nutrition at The University of Southern Mississippi is accepting applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor. This is a semester-by-semester, temporary appointment based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Multiple opportunities across a variety of courses are available and applicants should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Strength and conditioning (CSCS certification)/Weight Training
  • SCUBA
  • First-Aid/CPR
  • Physical Education 
  • Sport Coaching Education (experience coaching individual or multiple sports)
  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Exercise Science
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Exercise Psychology
  • Sports Psychology   

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate coursework in the School of Kinesiology and Nutrition.
  • Maintaining course shells in Canvas for each course.
  • Assessing student learning outcomes in assigned courses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with proof of certification to support specific expertise (Red Cross Instructor Certification to teach first aid courses; CSCS to teach activity courses) - OR- a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a closely related field.

     

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    •  Strong written and oral communication skills.
    •  Ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from   diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges. 
    •  Expertise in the area for which they are applying.
    •  Ability to be flexible.
    •  Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.

     

    Preferred Qualifications
    Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Teaching experience in K-12 physical education. Coaching experience. Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas.
