Job Description:

The Department of Psychology at SUNY Old Westbury regularly seeks to hire adjunct instructors to teach courses as needed in the department.  The Department of Psychology offers a B.A. and B.S. degree in Psychology, and a minors in Psychology, Neuropsychology, and Social Work.  The major is deeply grounded in the scientific study of mind, brain, and behavior.  Completion of requirements for a Bachelor's degree in Psychology ensures that students have been given an extensive background in research methods and have been introduced to the basic areas of specialization within psychology.  Candidates for adjunct positions should have a record of high-quality teaching.

Currently, we are seeking adjuncts to teach the following courses in the Fall 2021 semester that runs from September 1, 2021 through December 22, 2021.

PY 4510 - Ecological Context - Monday and Wednesday 11:20 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.

This course explores the social and contextual determinants of human behavior. Taking the organism-environment system as our fundamental unit of analysis, students analyze the ways in which individuals shape and are shaped by their social, historical, cultural, environmental, and political context; how those contexts inform and intersect with constructions of race, gender, and class; and the ways in which context shapes life chances. Emphasis is placed on the application of social psychological concepts and theories to pressing social issues.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Psychology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Social Psychology or ABD degree.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level.
