Job Description

To better prepare Engineering students for the professional world the College of Engineering has developed a Professionalism and Career Development course. This course will be required for all freshmen engineering students and will focus on the areas of career readiness, career exploration, career planning, and professionalism. This is a new course for the College of Engineering, Fall class averages 100-150 students and Spring class averages 25-50 students. The course has been taught during evening hours previously (after 5pm).

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Professionalism and Career Development course (topics include resumes, networking, cover letters, personal budgeting, professional communication, etc.).

  • Lead students in hands on activities related to professional and career development.

  • Collaborate with the Career Development Advisor and industry partners to gather feedback on course in order to tweak, change, and improve the program over multiple semesters.

  • Keep records, post grades, submit attendance reporting, and mentor students.

  • Post and maintain regular office hours.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or Business (including HR).

  • Five years of experience working in industry (outside government or academia).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • High degree of comfort and skill in engaging shy, reluctant, or disengaged individuals.

  • Management experience (management of personnel and teams not projects).

  • Experience with recruitment, interviewing, and hiring candidates.

  • Experience with professional networking.

  • Experience working with technical individuals (engineers, scientists, IT, software developers, computer scientists, etc.).
