Heidelberg University, located in Tiffin, Ohio, invites applications for Adjunct Instructor of Theatre Production and Designer of Theatre Productions for the Spring 2023 semester starting January 9th.  The successful candidate should be a dynamic teacher with a strong background in theatre production and design.  The successful candidate will teach the following courses: THR 106: Play Production, introducing different aspects of Production design and construction for majors and non-majors, and THR 270 Principles of Design for theatre majors.  The candidate would also serve as Production Manager for the 2 mainstage productions (Dangerous Liaisons and  SpongeBob the Musical), as well as contribute  design components according to the candidate’s expertise (set, lighting, costume, projection).   

This adjunct position is for the Spring 2023 semester with the possibility of renewal contingent on a performance evaluation during the fall semester.  

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  This position collaborates closely with the Director of Theatre but is supervised by the Director of the School of Music and Theatre.  

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This position assists the Director of Theatre in hiring and managing all theatre work study positions with assistance from the School of Music and Theatre Administrative Assistant.  This position will work with the Technical Director to manage work study and laboratory students.  This position will assist the Director of Theatre and Director of the School of Music and Theatre with recruitment of design specialists to support programming.  All personnel hires are completed by the Director of the School of Music and Theatre in collaboration with the Human Resources Office. 


 Responsibilities

  • Teach THR  106 Play Production, introducing different aspects of Production Design and Construction for majors and non-majors.  Coordinate with the Technical Director for the laboratory component of this course.  
  • Teach THR 270 Principles of Design course and supervise student design projects as part of guided practice.
  • Serve as Production manager for the spring mainstage productions,  collaborating with the Director and Technical Director on student design assignments and work schedules. 
  • Additional design work according to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the School of Music and Theatre.  

Qualifications

Education and Professional Experience:

  • MFA or professional equivalent in Theatre, with a preference for graduate study in production or design.
  • Prior Collegiate teaching experience within a theatre program.  Demonstrated strong commitment to student-centered active learning

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Fluency on production equipment, programs and design components to empower classroom and production instruction. 
  • Expressed understanding and demonstrated respect and sensitivity for the needs of a diverse student body.
  • Recruitment is a primary requirement in addition to service to the School of Music and Theatre.
  • Possess a work ethic that promotes teamwork, enhances creativity and motivation, and builds consensus in a high-energy and high-task environment with excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends as needed according to SMT programming and recruitment endeavors.

Supplemental Information

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: 

Various instructional technologies including, but not limited to Google Suite, learning management systems such as Canvas, video conferencing, etc. Fluency on Production programs and equipment, such as Qlab, Sound and lighting boards, is required.
