The Department of Performing Arts at Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas is seeking applications for a full-time, Adjunct Instructor of Dance/Choreographer to start in the Fall 2023 semester. 

The successful candidate will teach musical theatre I and II dance techniques. Candidates should have a record of professional performing experience in musical theatre as well as extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertory and the professional theatre world. Candidates should also demonstrate successful teaching experience in musical theatre performance.  In addition to teaching, the candidate will have the opportunity to choreograph for the mainstage spring musical and the musical theatre and opera workshop in the fall.  The ideal candidate will be an artist-teacher, whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience will contribute to advancement of the musical theatre concentration in both areas of music and theatre.  Required education includes a terminal degree, with a specialization in Musical Theatre or Acting/Directing, and experience teaching in a higher education institution. We will consider applicants with at least a bachelor’s degree and significant professional performance experience, who have also taught in a college setting for the faculty of professional practice category.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Expertise in Musical Theatre Dance  and Jazz Dance. Extensive knowledge of musical theatre repertory and the professional theatre world. Demonstrated commitment to creative collaboration; teaching excellence; building a respectful and inclusive environment that uses mentoring techniques designed to increase the likelihood of success for every student; organizational duties’ and  recruitment, retention and guidance of students.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be an artist-teacher, whose teaching, creative activity, and/or professional experience will contribute to advancement of the musical theatre concentration in both areas of music and theatre. Undergraduate and graduate university teaching experience desired. Choreography experience desired.
