Required Degree:  REQUIRED MINIMUM: Masters in Communication Disorders (Must have required degree by start date)

PREFERRED: CCC-SLP Speech-Language Pathologist

 

Experience:   

  • Working with a variety of children with speech sound disorders
  • Transcribing children's disordered speech using the International Phonetic Alphabet
  • Explaining typical and atypical speech production acquisition
  • Teaching experience is a benefit

Duties/Expectations:  

Prepare and teach the undergraduate Articulation and Phonology class, twice a week, on BYU campus:

  • An ability to teach:
  • The course of normal phonological acquisition and development in children
  • Identification of phonological processes/patterns from children's speech
  • The nature of speech sound disorders, including their etiologies and characteristics
  • Transcription of disordered children's speech using the International Phonetic Alphabet
  • Differential diagnosis of speech sound disorders (articulation errors, phonological errors, childhood apraxia of speech)
  • Principles and methods of assessment of childhood speech sound disorders, using both formal and informal methods
  • Interpretation of assessment results for diagnostic purposes and intervention planning
  • Principles and methods of intervention for treating children with speech sound disorders
  • How to differentiate intervention for children with various speech sound disorders
  • The relationship between phonology, language, and literacy development
