Adjunct Instructor, Instructional Sport and Recreation

Summary

The department of Sport & Exercise Sciences, is seeking an Adjunct Faculty to teach Instructional Sport and Recreation (ISR), under the direction of the Department of Sport & Exercise Sciences.

Instruction will focus on general fitness, lifetime sport and recreational opportunities.  The courses will provide instructional fitness and recreational experiences and are designed to promote physical and mental well-being through the development of a lifestyle that includes physical activity.  The variety of activities and skill levels affords each student a choice to suit individual needs and desires.  The student has the opportunity to develop competency in selected activities in order to maintain fitness for living, to provide a foundation for active use of leisure time, and to prepare for life-long recreational involvement.

This is an In-person position.


Essential Functions

Group Exercise

  • Aerobics, Pilates, Yoga, Boot Camp, Cardio-Kickboxing, Spinning, Peak Performance and Strength Training,   Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Mind/Body Meditation.

Specific Sport Instruction

  • Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Flag football, Golf, Soccer, Rowing, Tennis, Triathlon, and Volleyball.

Other

  • Scuba Diving, Self-Defense courses, Water Sports (i.e. kayaking, canoeing, etc.)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop curriculum

  • Prepare and distribute course outline/syllabi to students

  • Teach course sections

  • Maintain accurate attendance

  • Use teaching and learning strategies that optimize student performance and interest

  • Conduct assessments


Qualifications/Requirements

Certification from one the following:

  • American Council on Exercise (ACE), Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Aerobics Fitness Association of America (AFAA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength & Condition Association, or other nationally recognized fitness certification applicable to course being taught.

  • Prior experience teaching in a group setting

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work with students

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 

6.75
