Job Description

Friends University is seeking English instructors to teach Composition I (Writing I - Comp 201) which is an introductory composition class that focuses on writing as a process, enhancing critical thinking skills, and building practical writing skills. Students write a variety of essays and study models of good writing. 

The second course is Composition II (Writing II - Comp 202) which follows Comp. 201.  Students learn techniques of argumentation, documentation skills, and researching strategies for a research paper. Coursework also includes an introduction to literary analysis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach courses following the provided syllabus, the common core assignments and assessments, and objectives.
  • Organizes, prepares, and regularly revises and updates all course materials.
  • Develops and executes instructional plan for maximum learning.
  • Uses appropriate technological options for course-related software, including Websites, e-mail, etc for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.
  • Ensures that the content and level of material included on exams corresponds to the course objectives.
  • Demonstrates consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams, and provides timely feedback to students.
  • Grade submitted assignments and provide developmental feedback to students in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.

This is NOT an online position.  Must be willing to teach during the day.  


Skills & Requirements

Required: A Master’s degree in a field related to English Composition

Preferred: Ph.D. in English
