Job Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a part-time faculty position as an Adjunct Instructor starting in fall 2022. The ideal candidate will have expertise in teaching Anatomy & Physiology to non-majors. Minimum qualifications for the position are a completed Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or a related field, prior to appointment, and a demonstration of teaching interest and experience. Applicants must demonstrate scholarly excellence in course instruction. 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach Anatomy & Physiology to non-majors. 

  • Commitment to teaching lecture and laboratory

  • Mentor and supervise students through academic advising, scientific organizations, research and internship opportunities, and departmental activities

  • Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods

  • Serve on college-wide committees; participate in departmental activities, such as ongoing assessment projects, search committees, and regular department meetings

  • Fulfill assessment requirements according to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC) accreditation standards. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, PharmD, M.D., O.D., or D.V.M.

  • Minimum of two-years college teaching experience 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach Anatomy & Physiology for non-majors.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology in teaching and learning.

  • Demonstrated innovation in student-centered instruction through Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences.

  • Demonstrated experience with science teaching pedagogy, curriculum and/or program development.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a collaborative, team setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of undergraduate teaching experience.
