Position Announcement

Utah Valley University seeks adjunct applicants to teach American Sign Language in the Department of Languages. 


Summary of Responsibilities

The Adjunct will teach assigned courses of American Sign Language (ASL) using a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Supports and seeks to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the Philosophy, Mission, Values, and Vision adopted by UVU. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelors degree and one 1 year of professional teaching experience at a college level OR a combination of education and experience.
  • Must have advanced proficiency in ASL and must be prepared in basic language teaching pedagogy.
  • Must be able to teach upper and lower division courses as assigned.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the ASL and Deaf culture.
  • Knowledge in curriculum development and instructional strategies and techniques in education.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program development, and evaluation.
  • Skills in effective human relations and communication techniques.
  • Skills in public speaking with a variety of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to do the appropriate field study to stay current with the latest trends in education.
