The Emergent Digital Practices program brings together art, design, media, culture and technology studies in a hands-on, collaborative environment. Technology links academic disciplines with professional fields and joins shared communities with our personal lives in many new and exciting ways. To understand and explore this landscape, we infuse the digital practices of making and writing with contemporary critical approaches to cultural technologies, media philosophy, the critique and investigation of electronic and new media arts, trans-global politics and science, and studies in science fiction.

Position Summary

The Emergent Digital Practices program is accepting applications for an Adjunct Instructor specializing in areas that are complimentary to our current offerings of Video Art, Visual Programming, 3D modeling and animation, Coding, and Environmental topics for the 2021-2022 academic year. Fall classes begin September 11, 2021 and end November 23, 2021. A final will be scheduled by the Registrar’s office to occur between November 20-23. Classes meet twice a week for 3 hours per class. We are especially interested in instructors who have previous experience teaching in higher education settings, focusing on the critical use of technology in art and design.

*We are also accepting applications for Adjunct Instructors who are interested in teaching during the Winter and Spring Quarters. 

Essential Functions

The University operates on a quarter system (10 weeks of classes and the final week). This is a 4 credit hour course which will be taught on campus/face-to-face starting in the Fall Quarter 2021 at the University of Denver. The instructor will teach a studio course in digital art/design, meeting 6 hours a week in person, grading student work, and additional time as needed for course preparation and correspondence and meetings with students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience with emergent software and/or hardware tools appropriate to the specific upper-level course in higher education.

  • Commitment to utilizing and engaging a diverse range of perspectives, scholars, approaches, and resources in teaching materials and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an associated field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching emergent creative technologies in a higher education setting.

Course Rate

The course rate will be $4,233 per course.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
