General Description of Position:

Ivy Tech School of Business is seeking adjunct faculty to teach business and computer-related coursework in our BOAT (Business Operations, Applications, and Technology) Program including Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.

Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment   within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

Major Responsibilities:

PROGRAM OPERATION : Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information within established timelines.

STUDENTS : Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.

INSTRUCTION : Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course. Use technology such as Blackboard, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Minimum Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the program standard below (through one of four routes listed), the candidate should also have a current or 2nd  most current MOS in Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel.  

A qualified faculty member meets the program standard through one of four routes:  

1. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in a business or computer-related discipline, as appropriate to the program; or  

2. Possesses a related or out-of-field master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 post-secondary semester hours or equivalent of courses in business or computer-related discipline as appropriate to the program beyond the introductory principle(s) level; or  

3. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following:  

• Professional certification (national, regional or state)  

• Two years of in-field professional employment  

• Documented evidence of teaching excellence, including date of award  

• Documentation of research and publication in the field  

• Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU’s, vendor, or military: or 

4. Possesses an earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a business or computer-related discipline appropriate to the program, with documentation in two or more of the following:  

• Professional certification (national, regional or state), or  

• Two years of in-field professional employment, or Page 12 of 74

• Documentation of research and publication in field

Classes will be taught in person on campus in Sellersburg, Indiana or on site in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Classes are taught in a synchronous format, with eight 8-week terms offered each year.
