Salary:

Standard compensation for a 3-credit hour course begins at $3300.

Basic Function:

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering is seeking qualified individuals who may be interested in working as adjunct faculty members in support of its programs.

Additional Basic Function – if applicable:

The College of Aeronautics and Engineering is seeking qualified individuals who may be interested in working as adjunct faculty members in support of the following programs:

• Bachelor of Science Aeronautical Studies (AEST)
• Bachelor of Science in Air Traffic and Airspace Management (ATAM)
• Bachelor of Science in Aviation Management (AVMN)
• Bachelor of Science in Professional Pilot (PROP)
• Bachelor of Science in Unmanned Aircraft Systems-Flight Operations (UASO)
• Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Management (AVMM)

Additionally, faculty are needed to support the following minors:

• Aircraft Dispatch
• Aviation Law and Policy
• Aviation Management
• Aviation Weather
• Unmanned Aircraft Systems

The following programs are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI): AEST, ATAM, AVMN, PROP. The remaining two programs will be seeking AABI accreditation during the next affirmation cycle.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

Selected candidates will be considered for teaching a full range of lecture and lab courses in the above-listed programs. Courses include, but are not limited to:

• Air Transportation Industry Regulations
• Aerospace Medicine
• Aviation Law
• Aviation Security and Policy Seminar
• Aviation Maintenance Law and Regulations
• Labor Relations in the Aviation Industry
• Radar Satellite Weather Information 
• Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Command, Control and Communications
• Unmanned Aircraft Systems Sensing and Sensor Systems
• Unmanned Aircraft Systems Law and Regulations
• Weather Information Systems
• Weather Strategy for Aircrews

Adjunct faculty are expected to:

• Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts.
• Prepare and deliver learning activities to achieve course outcomes.
• Evaluate and grade students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, papers, and examinations.
• Maintain and submit student grades and other required documentation by specified deadlines.
• Perform student learning outcome assessment for accreditation purposes.
• Be available to students for office hours and out of classroom academic support.
• Be sensitive to the needs of a diverse population.
• May be asked to attend periodic meetings relative to teaching duties and training and development.

Courses are offered on a semester basis, fall (mid-August through mid-December), spring (mid-January through mid-May) and summer (several sessions). Classes are typically offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:45 am and 10:00 pm and run 1-2 days a week. The schedule of any class taught by an adjunct faculty member in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering will be coordinated with student schedules and the adjunct faculty’s availability, and on a case-by-case basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in aeronautics, aviation, profession pilot, aviation maintenance, airport management, unmanned aircraft systems, air traffic control, or related field, and at least 7 years related-work experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent) and advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

• A  master’s in aerospace engineering, aerospace engineering technology, or related field, and at least 3 years related-work experience

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

 Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
