Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC-Chapel Hill School of Government is the nation’s preeminent university-based hub for training, consulting, and impactful scholarship aimed at local and state government. Since 1931, the School’s mission has been to improve the lives of North Carolinians through practical scholarship that empowers citizens and public officials to understand and enhance state and local government. Each year the School offers over 200 courses, webinars, and specialized conferences tailored to cater to the diverse needs of more than 12,000 public officials, helping them navigate the complexities of public service. In addition to our renowned training programs, the School operates a nationally ranked Master of Public Administration program, available both on campus and online. We cultivate the next generation of public servants, equipping them with the knowledge and skills essential for impactful governance. Position Summary
The School of Government is seeking an Adjunct Assistant Professor for a one-year term appointment. The candidate must be an attorney; they may be a person seeking to explore or continue an academic career. The person will advise, teach, and produce written scholarship for North Carolina judicial officials about issues related to civil procedure, civil trials, and contested hearings. The person’s area of work will include the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure, court-ordered attorney fees, drafting orders, and pre- and post-judgment civil proceedings.
The position may be filled by a person doing full or part-time work (at least 20 hours per week), depending upon the preferences of the applicant.
Work is centered in Chapel Hill. Occasional in-state travel is required. 
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
JD, excellent writing skills, strong academic background and one year of experience in civil litigation or a related practice area.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The ideal candidate will have at least three years of relevant experience in civil proceedings.
