Job Summary
The position is contingent on the continuation of an executed contract with Ballad Health for funding of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program.
The Family Medicine Clinics are accepting applications for an Addiction Medicine Behavioral Health Specialist.The Specialist is responsible for working with the Care Team to recognize and address psychological symptoms and conditions using the bio-psychosocial approach. This position will:
  • Assess and treat individuals with mental, emotional, and substance use problems, including the use of alcohol, tobacco, and/or other drugs. Activities may include individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, case management, client advocacy, prevention, and education.
  • Develop care plans based on diagnostic assessment information that is documented appropriately, including identified goal(s), behavioral/psychological problem statement, measurable objectives, and estimated time frames for achievement.
  • Advise patients and family members in methods that facilitate a capacity for self-care and a movement towards a healthcare partnership between the healthcare teams, the patients, and their families.
  • Develop educational training materials and conduct sessions or disseminate information to the care team on recent advances in the field.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s in behavioral health field including; social work, counseling, or psychology. OR Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Two years experience working in a clinical setting.
  • Trained in behavioral medicine and health psychology concepts
  • Trained in social systems and familial aspects of psychological and medical conditions
  • Trained in substance use identification and treatment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with addictions in the setting of group sessions, and individual, and family counseling.
  • Unrestricted clinical licensure, LCSW, LMFT, LPC-MHSP, PsyD, Ph.D. (i.e., able to work independently, without supervision from a licensed supervisor), without current, or pending disciplinary action
  • Experience working with individuals with a substance use disorder.
  • Experience in higher education.
