SUMMARY:

The Ad Interim Instructor/Assistant Professor of Agricultural Education (Agricultural Mechanics and Mechanization) shall provide leadership in the continued implementation of a high quality program that involves curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students in Agricultural and Agricultural Mechanics Education.  This is a nine-month appointment that will serve the CASNR in a non-tenure track ad interim instructor OR a tenure-track faculty position.  Primary responsibility will be teaching, research, and service as needed by the CASNR and as required by accreditation agencies. The person selected for this position will be expected to teach according to the need of the college and students; online and face-to-face graduate courses and undergraduate courses, serve on university and graduate student committees, advise students regarding course and career choices, and assist the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources with youth-related (FFA and 4-H) service activities. 

Other duties as required, which may include coordinating the undergraduate teacher preparation program in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continue to carry out an established Ag Mechanics program and ensure a productive program in Agricultural Education with colleagues and students.
  • Provide an atmosphere for teaching, research and collaboration with the Agricultural Education faculty and students at the university.
  • Facilitates a work environment that encourages training, and improvement as a commitment to excellence.
  • Teaches courses related to their field and advises students in cooperation with the lead ALEC faculty member and success team member for academic advising.
  • Communicates and provides expertise with faculty and staff for the CASNR.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders (high school teachers, administrators, county extension directors, state FFA staff, etc.) in order to promote the CASNR at the university.
  • Responsible for a research agenda (if tenure track) that is inclusive of grant writing, publishing and delivery of research presentations at statewide, regional and national audiences.
  • Facilitates experiential learning opportunities (e.g. LDE and CDE contests) hosted by the university as needed and assigned.
  • Attends and facilitates student involvement with District, Area, and Statewide FFA and 4-H events.
  • Continue to work as a team and update curriculum for the Agricultural Education program, as needed.
  • This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Earned Masters (for the Ad Interim Instructor) OR Doctorate in Agricultural Education or closely related field (for the tenure track position). Applicants who are “All but Dissertation” may be considered.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

    A minimum of three years prior teaching experience in teaching agriculture at the secondary level.

    Excellent ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken English).

    Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, EXCEL, and Word.

    Ability to teach related subjects in the field of Agricultural Education and willing to advise students

  • Ability to: multi-task and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students, as well as people with culturally diverse backgrounds. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends as needed.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in Agricultural Education and FFA Advising in Texas.
  • Teaching experience in Agricultural Mechanics and Agricultural Education at the higher education level either as a       

         graduate student or faculty member.

  • A background in Agriculture Mechanics
  • Previous experience in teaching with web-based instruction.
  • Experience in grant writing, publishing, and delivery of research presentations.
