Position Summary

Designs, organizes and directs inpatient and outpatient events and activities to improve the well-being of patients. Interacts with patients through planning, and the delivery of activities in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the City of Hope National Medical Center. Serves as a liaison to other departments and special interest groups to promote interactions, activities, and new and innovative programs.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Introduces patients to activities and events deemed appropriate for their age and condition.
  • Demonstrates skill and creativity in implementing patient activities, events and programs, which are safe, effective, and efficient.
  • Modifies activities according to patient needs and interests and develops appropriate alternative plans as indicated.
  • Completes evaluations of activities and events and shares with management.
  • Develops and implements new events, activities and projects, makes recommendations for change.
  • Runs unit based activity groups for purposes of patient entertainment and social interaction.
  • Manages costs for activities and events to ensure they remain within budget.
  • Serves as a liaison to hospital staff, and personnel from other departments, to coordinate and facilitate activities and events for patients.
  • Monitors patient participation in and satisfaction with activities/events.
  • Creates a positive, welcoming, caring, stimulating environment during patient activities.
  • Provides opportunities for socializing and encourages relationship building among patients during activities/events.
  • Maintains monthly calendar of events.
  • Sets annual goals with management and operates within budget.
  • Performs department staff scheduling.
  • Manages volunteer scheduling and responsibilities.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in related area such as recreational therapy, social work, geriatrics, psychology, art therapy, music therapy etc.
  • 3+ years of experience working as an activities coordinator or related position.

 

Req. Certification/Licensure:

  • BLS (through American Heart Association) Certification
