Position Summary
Designs, organizes and directs inpatient and outpatient events and activities to improve the well-being of patients. Interacts with patients through planning, and the delivery of activities in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the City of Hope National Medical Center. Serves as a liaison to other departments and special interest groups to promote interactions, activities, and new and innovative programs.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Introduces patients to activities and events deemed appropriate for their age and condition.
- Demonstrates skill and creativity in implementing patient activities, events and programs, which are safe, effective, and efficient.
- Modifies activities according to patient needs and interests and develops appropriate alternative plans as indicated.
- Completes evaluations of activities and events and shares with management.
- Develops and implements new events, activities and projects, makes recommendations for change.
- Runs unit based activity groups for purposes of patient entertainment and social interaction.
- Manages costs for activities and events to ensure they remain within budget.
- Serves as a liaison to hospital staff, and personnel from other departments, to coordinate and facilitate activities and events for patients.
- Monitors patient participation in and satisfaction with activities/events.
- Creates a positive, welcoming, caring, stimulating environment during patient activities.
- Provides opportunities for socializing and encourages relationship building among patients during activities/events.
- Maintains monthly calendar of events.
- Sets annual goals with management and operates within budget.
- Performs department staff scheduling.
- Manages volunteer scheduling and responsibilities.
- Responsible for ordering supplies.
Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in related area such as recreational therapy, social work, geriatrics, psychology, art therapy, music therapy etc.
- 3+ years of experience working as an activities coordinator or related position.
Req. Certification/Licensure:
- BLS (through American Heart Association) Certification
