Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
ACES, the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students, is a four year undergraduate honors cybersecurity program within the University of Maryland’s nationally ranked Honors College. Comprised of two linked academic programs, ACES includes a living-learning program for freshmen and sophomores, which launched in fall 2013 and currently has a community of over 160 students, and the ACES Minor in cybersecurity for sophomores, juniors and seniors, which launched in spring 2016 and currently has a community of over 140 students. ACES includes academic and co-curricular components, including events focused on community building, professional development, and education beyond the classroom.
The University of Maryland’s Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) program invites applications for a teaching appointment with the rank of Lecturer. The Lecturer will participate fully in the life of a thriving, living-learning community and academic minor and teach foundational coursework for both the living learning program and academic minor.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Teaching (course design/revision and instruction of approx. 17-24 credit hours per academic year) courses may include a combination of the following:
    • Living Learning Program Courses :
      • HACS100
      • HACS101
      • HACS200
      • HACS208 seminars
    • Minor Courses :
      • HACS201
      • HACS202
      • HACS408 seminars
  • Curriculum and program development, including course design and curriculum assessment

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Master’s degree in cybersecurity or a related field.

Experience:
  • Experience in undergraduate teaching.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrable potential to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience with UNIX principles, file editing, UNIX commands, and file manipulation
  • Track record of scholarly potential in cybersecurity.
Preferences:

  • PhD, or other terminal degree, from an accredited academic institution.
  • Record of innovative course design and/or pedagogy.
  • Demonstrably inclusive communication practices and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with undergraduate living-learning programs
