Position Summary

The accreditation process is designed to standardize law enforcement practices on a national basis, decrease liability in litigation, increase effectiveness and efficiency in the delivery of services, increase cooperation and coordination with other criminal justice agencies and increase citizen and employee confidence in the practices of the department.

The accreditation manager is responsible for the creation and vetting of policies, the coordination and adaptation of the Lexipol updates, meeting with department staff for input on policies, and working with units outside the department including University Counsel for applicable input. The accreditation manager is responsible for maintenance of the policy manual and will ensure that all policies are complete, adhere to current accreditation standards, the Constitutions of the United States and Colorado, as well as federal and state laws, the Aurora municipal code, and University of Colorado rules and regulations.

Program Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of a program, function or work unit, including the Development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes.  These positions typically do not supervise others.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Policy development for new practices
  • Policy development to ensure best practices of existing directives
  • Archiving historical data pertaining to policy development
  • Oversight of the IACLEA and the on-site process
  • Evaluating and recommending programs for exemplary status with IACLEA
  • Ensure compliance and oversee reaccreditation process
  • Networking with local agencies of the Rocky Mountain Accreditation Network (RMAN)
  • Reviewing periodic publications of IACLEA
  • Provide standards information pertinent to the development of new policy
  • Assist in the review of new/revised directives and SOPs for IACLEA compliance
  • File maintenance function consisting of the accomplishment of the following tasks:
    • Maintaining a reference library of all current accreditation standards;
    • Notifying and training Department members as standards change that require a revision of Standard Operating Procedures and/or Directives;
    • Providing training to all command officers with areas of responsibility in the accreditation process (in-service training, newsletter, accreditation meetings);
    • Documenting the file maintenance process for each year of an accreditation cycle;
    • Collecting proof documentation from respective units in a timely fashion;
    • Reporting deficiencies (document collection and non-compliance practices) to the Chief of Police immediately;
    • Establish a tracking system to ensure that all related Directives and Standard
    • Operating Procedures are revised as necessary;
  • Write policies
  • Meet with department employees thru scheduled meetings and managing the meetings
  • Meet with non-department employees thru scheduled meetings and managing the meetings
  • Publish policies after the vetting process is complete
  • Commence the accreditation process
    • Ultimately host the site visit for accreditation

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $52,000 to $53,000. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • Completion of four years of college with Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with major emphasis in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field is required.
  • 4 years of law enforcement experience in an accredited agency.
  • Experience writing policy and procedures in a law enforcement agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Command level experience in an accredited law enforcement agency.
  • Experience in the IACLEA or CALEA accreditation process.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of federal, state and municipal criminal laws and rules of evidence.
  • Knowledge of parking regulations, policies, and requirements for a large urban university campus.
  • Considerable knowledge of administrative policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge of budget expenses and resources & equipment inventory maintenance.
  • Ability to develop policy and departmental objectives, within the expectations and goals of the institution.
  • Skilled in dealing with interpersonal relationships of subordinates, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
