Position Summary Information

Department Description

Established in 1925, the Department of Dramatic Art (DDA) is the second-oldest theatre department in the United States. The Department of Dramatic Art provides comprehensive undergraduate education in dramatic literature, history and theatre practice, and professional training at the graduate level in costume production, technical production, and acting. Through preparation, production, and performance our BA and MFA degrees in Dramatic Art allow students to transfer what they learn in the classroom into practice with the Kenan Theatre Company and PlayMakers Repertory Company (the LORT-D professional theatre company in residence at UNC). All faculty members in the Department of Dramatic Art also serve as resident designers, artists, and technicians at PlayMakers, which allows our undergraduate and graduate students to engage in the creative process with master artists. Our goal is to foster the exchange of knowledge, talent, and ideas among undergraduates, professionals-in-training, our resident company of artists and crafts persons, our audiences, and the national theatre community.
