Position Description:

JOB TITLE:  Accountant II

DEPARTMENT:  Business Operations

The primary job duties for the Accountant II include assisting departments/schools with program reconciliations including sponsored programs and all fund speedtypes.  This includes financial related activities to include monthly speedtype reconciliations, expense and charge transfers problem resolution.  This role will also focus on payroll funding changes which include program and sponsored program funding sources.  The candidate will maintain sponsored program and all funds expense encumbrances based on information provided by the department and award documentation.  The Accountant II will perform a careful review and analysis of monthly sponsored program and all funds speedtypes financial statements working with department contacts to ensure adjustments and corrections are processed, as needed.  Ad hoc reports will be provided to department in a timely manner, as requested.

The candidate will be responsible for communication with various departments on the status of funding changes as well as relaying any pertinent information to assist in the processing of funding change requests.  This will also include communication on sponsored program and all funds reconciliations.

The Accountant II assists other Business Operations Finance Accountants or serves as backup, when needed.  They will assist in training new personnel, as requested, and complete projects, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Processes payroll funding changes for various university departments and funding sources
  • Performs monthly sponsored program speedtype and all funds' reconciliations to include review of transactions, maintain correct payroll and expense encumbrances, submit financial statements to department Approvers, and assist department contacts in processing statement adjustments. 
  • Assists department and school key contacts in problem resolution and consult on University policies and procedures as they relate to sponsored programs.    
  • Provide support and assistance to other Finance team members and/or serve as their backup as well as training new personnel. 
  • Assist external and internal auditors and other projects, as assigned. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Financial reconciliation and reporting experience
  • Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word) knowledge and experience
  • Active listening and strong oral comprehension skills including positive tone, clear diction, and good grammar.
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Quality customer service experience
  • Skilled in organizing and prioritizing tasks
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in using PeopleSoft Financials and University Reports
  • Knowledgeable in University financial policies and procedures related to reconciliations, budgets, and cash receipts.
  • Familiarity with federal guidelines affecting sponsored programs.
  • Experienced in reconciling using BA.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
