University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), the Department of Radiation Oncology is recruiting to hire an Accountant I to facilitate our state of Maryland accounting functions related to our department wide activities. The position will work with all members of our department Business Office to support a full spectrum of accounting activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Performs entry level professional accounting work such as performing and reviewing reconciliations, biweekly salary values, annual projections to budget values, debit memo's, preparing working papers, schedules and reports.
  • Examines a variety of documents to verify accuracy of computations.
  • Ensures that transactions are in accordance with applicable authority, policies, procedures, and are recorded consistent with acceptable accounting standards.
  • Provides assistance to support staff to demonstrate or explain procedures. Supports travel management as needed.
  • Prepares accounting reports utilizing manual methods and/or computer software.
  • Creates and submits campus payroll action forms for new hires, terminations, changes in job types/ categories, updates to leave accruals, etc for all staffing & faculty levels. Supports bi-weekly payroll actions. Review line by line analysis of payroll and leave reports for accuracy and variances. Identifies inconsistencies and errors and escalates as needed.
  • Gives guidance and assistance to employees with questions or concerns related to payroll, leave, assist with VISA processes, and assist with campus international tax treaty and citizenship forms. Facilitates Glacier tax compliance forms and yearly non-citizen renewals, and facilitate post doc/student/volunteer/summer intern processes. 
  • Gather data and prepares various reports for management. Prepares and assembles data and reports for use in budgetary evaluation, expenditure tracking, and maintains data to coordinate necessary computer files.

Qualifications

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of nine (9) credits in Accounting.
EXPERIENCE: None

OTHER: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being
equivalent to one year of experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and  automated office equipment, personal computers and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation.

Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000
