The Facilities Management department has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Accountant I position.

Jobs in this career family provide the accounting and financial activities for the University.  Functions include general accounting, budget, financial analysis and audit, tax and reporting, accounts payable and receivables, government cost reimbursement, contract administration, cashiering, cash management/ banking, investments, treasury and travel audit.

Professionals at the entry level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals and are performed in a training and Development capacity.

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for managing, monitoring and reporting budget and expenses for campus capital, non-capital construction and controlled maintenance project funds (approximately $50-$90 million in expenditures annually) at both the CU Denver and CU Anschutz locations of the University of Colorado. Position will be financially handling the project budgets, routing invoices for approvals, setting up and maintaining project status reports and processing pay applications; communicating frequently with project managers and other project accountants regarding scope/schedule/status/issues with projects.

Examples of Work Performed:

Provide all finance, accounting and procurement support for various construction projects. The duties include, but not limited to:

  • Creating project status reports for each project and maintain the status with updates on commitments and payments.
  • Creating journal entries, cash transfers in the general ledger and requesting budget adjustments as needed.
  • Verifying funds for commitments and conduct financial reviews for construction contracts and consulting agreements.
  • Creating POs, SPOs for projects and requesting updates per amendments and change orders.
  • Processing invoices and reviewing payment applications for projects.
  • Coordinating project budgets and progress from start to finish and closing out projects when they are completed.
  • Work closely with Project Managers for timely submission, payment, and or accrual of invoices for the Fiscal Year End.
  • Meeting with project managers on project financial status and budget issues/updates and assist them to resolve the issue.
  • Support project accountants and others with maintaining the projects database, invoice tracking, filing various project documents, and other day-to-day project accounting administrative duties.
  • In addition, the position helps to prepare various ad hoc reports, as needed.
  • Other accounting duties, as assigned.
  • Assist with training and informing project managers with up to date procurement rules and regulations.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $40,731 - $51,810
  • The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
  • The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
  • This position may be eligible for a one time non-base building sign-on bonus up to $2,000.  Details of this recruitment incentive program will be provided during the interview process.
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel to develop, revise, and maintain spreadsheets and databases for reporting and tracking purposes for all core activities.
  • Experience with University of Colorado systems, reporting, finance, procurement, invoicing, and billing, and PeopleSoft system financial module.
  • Experience in providing administrative and financial assistance within a higher education environment.
