The University of South Alabama’s College of Medicine Research Office is seeking to hire an Accountant I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • This is professional accounting work exercising control over specific grant funds or groups of funds.
  • Maintains a variety of spreadsheets and ledgers.
  • Prepares monthly grant financial statements.
  • Audits various funds to verify accuracy of entries.
  • Assists in conducting various cost studies.
  • Assists with the preparation of budget reconciliation and reporting.
  • Gathers statistical data for use in accounting reports.
  • Ensures expenditures confirm to rules and regulations of the funding agency, managing post-award activities such as monitoring awardee expenditures.
  • Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level accountant or management and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results.
  • Uses professional accounting methods and techniques using PC and calculator.
  • Interacts and coordinates with USA faculty, staff and students, as well as community leaders to assist in the coordination and execution of collaborative projects and programs.
  • Identifies action items in programs and projects, recommends priorities and deadlines, helps direct completion of items by established deadlines.
  • Processes post-award change requests, grant close-out reports and documents and prepares purchasing requisitions and travel reimbursement documents.
  • Supports grant administration specialists as directed and participates in preparation and coordination of grant applications.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties required.
