Position Summary Information


Position Summary
The Account Clerk is responsible to aid in scholarship and state grant awarding, processing cancelling, and reviewing of requests. Will also be responsible to review appeals for the Hope Scholarship, TN Promise, and TN Reconnect, and assist students with any questions they have concerning their state awards and the possibility of losing the scholarship.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Determine state award eligibility by reviewing TN FAST and Banner Ellucian systems.
  • Review TN FAST to determine whether student records need to be updated and if students are eligible.
  • Review student files in Banner to ensure they are eligible based on ACT and/or high school GPA.
  • Review the files of continuing students to ensure they meet continuing eligibility requirements.
  • Certify students in TN FAST to receive Hope Scholarship and TSAA Grant payments from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC)
  • Generate and process withdrawal reports through Argos reporting system which shows students who have withdrawn from classes.
  • Make appropriate state award adjustments when there is a change to a student’s eligibility.
  • Process incoming state award appeals to be sent to the internal review board (IRB). Ensure all documentation needed to make a decision have been received.
  • Review incoming Regain Request Forms and process them once a student has reached the next benchmark.
  • Process incoming Non-Traditional Hope Scholarship Request forms. Review against a checklist to determine eligibility.
  • Process incoming Repeat/Exclusion forms.
  • Process bracket reports at the end of each term. Review students individually to ensure they have met the continuing eligibility criteria for state awards.
  • Process TSAA Grant awards including posting of the award, making necessary adjustments, and performing reconciliation of the grant funds.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Ellucian Banner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
  • Ability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
  • Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate students as appropriate.
  • Ability to accurately process applications.
  • Ability to understand and disseminate information about federal regulations.
Physical Requirements
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree or a minimum of two years of college study.
  • Prior financial aid experience preferred.
  • Personal computer skills.
  • A background check will be required of the successful applicants.
