Position Summary Information
General Information | The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is seeking a Graduate Student to work part-time in our office to assist in providing various accommodation services to students with disabilities. |

Duties and Responsibilities | The Accommodations Student Assistant will work in both the Exam Accommodations and Peer Notes programs. Exam Accommodation Services offers exams in accessible media formats, proctoring services, a reduced distraction environment and extended exam time through the Office of Disability Services. Accommodations are provided within parameters agreed on between the professor, the student and ODS. The Note Taking Program offers accommodations to students, who may be eligible to receive: instructor slides and overheads in advance of class, supplemental notes recorded by student volunteers, and the use of assistive technology such as Livescribe Smartpens. Specifically, the Accommodations Student Assistant will: • Enter and manage notetaking data using Accommodate and Outlook • Scan class notes and deliver/assist with delivery of notes • Enter and manage exams data using Accommodate, Excel, and Outlook • Act as a proctor for students’ exams – monitor test takers for honor code and handle receipt and delivery of test materials • Organize, file and archive paperwork • Train and demonstrate assistive technology software/hardware to students. • Answer questions for volunteers, faculty, and students registered with ODS Candidates must be able to attend a mandatory training week from August 17th– August 22nd. |
Qualifications | • Currently enrolled in any JMU Graduate Program • Demonstrated commitment and ability to work effectively with members of diverse populations and varying abilities • Creative problem-solving skills • Ability to work cooperatively independently and as a team member • Willingness to learn and adapt processes to new software and technology |
Conditions of Employment | Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
