Accessibility Specialist will work up to 29 hrs per week during regular operating hours (i.e., M-F, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m).
Pay Rate $18 per hour
Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
  • Graduate coursework or experience in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology.
  • Familiarity with UDL principles, WAI-ARIA and WCAG 2.1 guidelines, or Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn assistive technology such as: screen readers and screen magnifiers such as JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, Fusion/ZoomText; WAVE and/or aXe web accessibility evaluators, color contrast analyzers, Canvas, captioning software.
  • Passionate about inclusive educational technology and learning in higher education.
  • Interest in best practices in digital accessibility and universal design for different document formats (Word, PPT, PDF, Excel).
  • Tenacious problem-solver, innovative, and self-directed.
  • Works well independently, successful collaborator, and strong learning agility.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and customer service skills.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) team as part of the School of Professional Studies, is seeking an Accessibility Specialist interested in digital accessibility and ADA compliance in online courses and learning environments. The Accessibility Specialist will support the course production team in reviewing and remediating online course content and learning environments to be ADA compliant and functionally accessible to all students, including students with disabilities.
The Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for a variety of activities, including but not limited to the following:
  • Ensuring that online courses designed with the assistance of the course production team are accessible to students with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Performing accessibility testing of digital course content, which includes third-party websites, software applications, different document formats, multimedia, and Canvas content.
  • Writing remediation recommendations to faculty and staff to ensure course content follows WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines and is functionally accessible.
  • Assisting the CTL in delivering training to faculty and other campus stakeholders on the accessibility of digital materials.
  • Working with course production team, ODA, Libraries, and other campus units as needed to ensure procurement of ADA compliant products and to improve the accessibility of online materials.
