Position Summary
Access Control is looking for a qualified Access Control Technician II to join their team!
The Access Control Technician II participates in overseeing and performing numerous tasks related to security access and access control with direct contact with all campus users and administrators, including data entry, technical support, programming and testing for Danforth Campus Access Control Systems (C-Cure 9000), CCTV Systems, Lock Shop Systems and Facilities, Planning and Management Maximo System. This role provides customer service and addresses issues while interacting with Facilities Personnel, the Police Department, Card Access Liaisons, Campus Card Office, Event Services office and the Campus Community (students, staff, faculty, contractors, etc.) as needed.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administers and Supervises, as needed, Access Control-C-Cure 9000, CCTV, Badging, Standalone, Maximo and Lock Shop systems by answering calls, providing quality customer service, inputting data, encoding cards and interacting with Card Access Liaisons, Information Systems, who maintain the Server Host and key personnel in Facilities, Police Department (including investigations), Event Services Office of Student Records, Human Resources, Dining Services, Residential Life, Communications and Networking, Contract Employees, Vendors, Customers and other necessary parties.
  • Works jointly with Access Control Technician 1 in replying to emails regarding programming requests, lock and card issues, and general student/faculty concerns and inquiries. Interacts with Access Control and CCTV vendors as needed, on or off campus. Works jointly with Access Control Technician I answering phone calls in regards to contractor testing requirements/needs, network testing requirements/needs, WUPD testing and inquiries, department and building programming requests, and general student/faculty concerns and inquiries. Works jointly with Access Control Technician in troubleshooting issues regarding both access cards, programming errors, mechanical lock malfunctions, wireless lock malfunctions, and hardwired lock malfunctions. Works in conjunction with the Systems Manager on effectively updating and maintaining the C-Cure 9000 database.
  • Works throughout the Danforth Campus, to include North Campus, West Campus and Off Campus Properties on Servicing, Testing, Trouble-Shooting, Access Control and CCTV systems and equipment. Attends weekly meetings with Event Services during the spring and fall semesters in addition to attending weekly meetings with Summer Conferences department throughout the summer semester. Attends project meetings and training with the Installations Manager, as directed, in regards to design access control and CCTV solutions for Danforth Campus Users. At the direction of the Manager(s) of Access Control and Electronic Security Monitors, Advises and Assists Contractors who are servicing or installing systems on campus and also provides access to secure spaces for said contractors, if needed.
  • Cooperates and assists as needed with all Facilities Planning and Management related operations.
  • Willing to accept other duties and projects as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior work/educational experience in security environment, CCTV and access control systems highly desirable, such as Schlage Security Management System (SMS) certification or experience, March Networks certification or experience and experience with Maximo.
  • Experience in being expected for 24-hour availability for emergencies.
  • Two year’s work experience with Software House C-Cure 9000, including training.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be able to tolerate and perform job functions well during periods of high stress.
  • The individual will have a work area in the Millbrook Facilities building.
  • Normal activity may include, but not be limited to, conduct visual inspections, tours, visits, etc. to all parts of the campus and individual buildings, including climbing steps, ladders, inclines, etc.
  • May be required to tour construction sites, contained areas with loud noise or significant dust, flooded or damp areas, etc.
  • Will be subject to background check/investigation/scrutiny and approval as recommended by the University Police department.
  • Must be willing to accept phone calls and perform other functions when not at work relating to access control issues, including carrying communication devices/computers, and, when necessary, come to the University other than on normal business hours to address access control issues. This will include being “on call” for evenings and weekends in rotation with Managers of Access Control & Electronic Security.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification and at least some college level courses.
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings and sketches.
  • Ability to coordinate the work, training and the development plan for a campus card access system.
  • Communication skills sufficient to interact effectively and in a professional manner with campus department/building representatives, vendors/contractors and with Police, Card Office and Transportation personnel and maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Two year’s work experience in the access control and electronic security field.
  • One year working with Software House C-Cure software in complex multi-building environments.

Salary Range
$21.60 - $33.45 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
