Job Description


Under the supervision of the Director of Student Success, Equity, & Inclusion, the Access & Accommodations Coordinator provides support for students with a variety of identified disabilities. The coordinator is responsible for creating and promoting an accessible and inclusive campus learning environment. In addition, the Coordinator will oversee responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following: review of diagnostic documentation; determination of appropriate and reasonable academic accommodations for students with diagnosed disabilities; promotion of disability awareness through campus activities and events; development of peer- to-peer initiatives, and development of support structures and initiatives for students with disabilities in-line with the University retention efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Works closely with the Director to manage a caseload of students with diagnosed disabilities requiring accommodations.

  • Knowledgeable of the Americans with Disability Act, Title 504 and Title 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as they relate to higher education

  • Reviews medical/psychological information to determine eligibility for accommodations

  • On a case-by-case basis, the coordinator will determine and coordinate appropriate accommodations for students including but not limited to: note taker services, interpreter services, testing accommodations, alternative text books and other areas related to assistive technologies.

  • Work with faculty, staff, and other University personnel in appropriately accommodating students with disabilities.

  • Assists with official office communications with all students, faculty and staff.

  • Collaborate with other offices in Student Affairs as well as other departments to support students, staff, faculty and the community members with disabilities.

  • Maintain current information on federal and state legislations in regards to disability services.


  • Provide information about disability services to current and prospective students, parents, and high school counselors.

  • Provide individual assistance to students, as necessary.

  • Develop and implement student/faculty/staff in service training programs regarding disability issues.

  • Refer students to on- and off-campus resources.

  • Maintain record keeping systems to assure appropriate resources are available, to assure documentation as necessary, and to assure accountability.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in Counseling-Clinical Psychology, Special Education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience – Two years of related experience including related supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of – Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of Section 504 of the Texas Rehabilitation Act and ADA.  Knowledge in the review of psychological and/or psycho-educational assessments and medical documentation.
  • Ability to – Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to implement and manage new programs.  Ability to adhere to ethical standards and ADA laws and regulations. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Licensing / Professional Certification – None.
