The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. The Accelerator Technician I, is responsible for monitoring cyclotron operations. Provide support for experimenters as needed and repair and build cyclotron related equipment as required. Required Education:

  • Associate's degree OR
  • Two years technical certification training in vacuum, electronic or electrical systems OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to basic hand tools
  • Basic electrical/mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • Able to work in the rotating shift schedule, and fill in as needed

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Physics background
  • Knowledge of electronic and vacuum systems

Preferred Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver license or ability to obtain State of Texas class "C" vehicle driver license within 30 days of employment

Preferred Other Factors:

  • Training will be provided

Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Staff - Works with engineering staff on facility-related projects.
  • Control Systems/Vacuum Systems - Operates control systems and starts/stops vacuum systems.
  • See Line - Performs See line 2-key checks
  • Tune RF - Tune RF on accelerators, makes basic machine adjustments and peaks beam for experiments.
  • Assists Experimenters - Assists experimenters with technical issues
  • Troubleshoot - Troubleshoots basic beam loss
  • Cryogenic System Adjustments - Performs basic cryogenic system adjustments.
  • Daily Lab - Performs daily lab tasks. If an occasion arises, may need to pick up supplies on or off campus.
  • RAM System - Monitors RAM Systems
  • Interlock Checks - Assists with interlock checks
  • Beam-lines - Changes modes and sets up beam-lines
  • Data Log - Maintains data log and performs other duties as assigned.
