Job Description:
To provide tutoring services for students currently enrolled in classes at the college, and to address general needs of the college. Assist faculty, staff, students and visitors while at Virginia Highlands Community College. Provide administrative, outreach, and clerical support to the MARC and the library as needed.

  • Greets students, faculty, staff and visitors upon entry into the MARC
  • Assists students who need academic support in the MARC in approved subject area(s)
  • Direct students, faculty, and staff to the MARC coordinator to make tutoring appointments, and assist in making appointments as needed
  • Check students in upon arrival and maintain records of sessions
  • Promptly and politely serve patrons, students, faculty, and staff in person at the circulation desk and elsewhere in the LRC and on campus as needed
  • Promptly and politely answer the telephone and respond to questions, refer, and/or transfer the call as appropriate
  • Assist patrons, students, staff and faculty with copying, faxing, printer issues, technology, and software and other office issues.
  • Assist with receipt of new materials when needed. Duties may include unpacking large and small boxes and carrying materials to shelves.
  • Assist the library staff as needed.
  • Reload paper in the copiers/printers
  • Assist patrons with locating resources on library shelves when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Special Assignments

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Grade of no less than B in the desired subject (no C, D, F, W, I)
  • Some experience in some form of student support
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and Google docs.
Additional Considerations
  • Bachelor’s degree, but current/past students welcome to apply.
  • Work experience in community colleges or other higher education settings preferred but not required.
  • Knowledgeable in the subject area.
  • Some customer service experience preferred but not required.
