Job Summary
 

Develops and supports information technology used in teaching and learning. Collaborates with instructors to provide consultative support for curriculum design, appropriate strategies for implementing instructional technology, and course development services utilizing accepted instructional theories and principles. Investigates innovative uses of technology in teaching and learning and promotes the use of specialized applications, equipment, and services, including face-to-face interaction as well as group, seminar, and web-based interaction and dissemination. Develops resources and services, including tailored training programs, documentation, online reference materials, learning modules, and seminars ranging from basic online course management skills to the advanced application of technology in teaching. May work to incorporate learning management systems (LMS), which distribute courses over a network and offers features for online collaboration. Fosters the development and understanding of new technologies pertaining to learning and scholarship by developing and maintaining a network of relationships with colleagues across campus, other institutions, and professional affiliations on an ongoing basis. Monitors trends, identifies opportunities, and explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning problems. May develop and implement user education programs for faculty, students, and staff; provide maintenance, development, support and promotion of the campus learning management system (Canvas); support related systems including content management and community collaboration environments; investigate, deploy, and support scalable and sustainable learning technologies, programs, and reusable learning objects; and work with other units across campus to aggregate services in an academic context. May also oversee the work of support staff.
Academic Technology Analyst (ATA): Advocates for the integration of technology in teaching and learning, research and other scholarly endeavors. The successful candidate for the ATA position thinks creatively about using technology in an educational setting and works well in a dynamic, collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for the effective use of technology in a variety of academic activities.
  • Works closely with faculty to understand their IT needs with regard to teaching, research and scholarship.
  • Offers individual faculty consultations and group workshops on instructional design methods and using technology in teaching.
  • Organizes, plans, and publicizes events that excite faculty and students and encourage innovative uses of technology in academic pursuits.
  • Builds partnerships with administrators, librarians, museum educators, research specialists, and other colleagues across campus that support faculty.
  • Keeps up to date with emerging trends in educational technology and online learning.
  • Collaborates with the departmental staff to continually improve academic platforms, tools, services and processes.
  • Guides faculty to make the most effective uses of existing educational platforms and tools.
  • Supports for academic tools and platforms.
  • Analyzes resources and services ranging from basic online courses to application of technology in teaching. This competence is developed by performing structured work assignments.
  • Monitors and analyzes trends, identifies opportunities, and explores innovative approaches to teaching and learning problems. Works with other units across campus to aggregate services in an academic context.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Master's degree in instructional design, instructional technology or related field.
  • Doctoral degree. 

Experience:

  • Minimum five years of experience in instructional technology and/or working with university instructors in support of their teaching with technology.
  • Experience in supporting the use of technology for teaching and learning such as blogging tools, communication tools, and learning management systems (i.e., Canvas).
  • Experience developing online courses, or blended/hybrid courses.
  • Experience developing training materials and documentation.
  • Experience communicating with users of greatly varying technical knowledge (senior administration, faculty, staff, or students).

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of instructional design methods and theory.
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends in education and technology, digital learning, and social media.
  • Demonstrated understanding of web technologies and digital media
  • Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends in learning management systems and social technologies in education.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio.

Preferred Competencies

  • Exceptional communications skills; high caliber written and oral communications skills for internal and external seminars, colloquia, presentations, and workshops.
  • Resourceful for, and partners with colleagues in ITS and around the University
  • Flexible in their performing an array of duties critical to the success of projects and services.
  • Demonstrated record of working successfully in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
