Academic Support Librarian
Primary Purpose:
The Academic Support Librarian plays a valuable role in providing energy and initiative to the University of the Pacific Library's research support and learning services. Reporting to the Director of University Libraries, the person in this role collaborates with fellow librarians in delivering services to the University community. In particular, the person in this position will develop curated collections, provide research expertise, and deliver educational services for the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, the School of Engineering and Computer Science, additional STEM departments, and other programs as needed. The Academic Support Librarian contributes to a student-centered organization and is committed to examining and pursuing ways to address diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) within the library.
Essential Functions:

  • Provide liaison support for assigned subject areas through library sessions, research consultations, collection development, and other related projects.
  • Curate and manage the librarys collection of owned, licensed, and open-source resources, ensuring alignment with the institutions academic and research needs and interests as well as fostering resource discoverability, visibility, and usage.
  • Collaborates with fellow Academic Support Librarians and student-centered academic partners to support student success and retention through research consultations, library instruction, and other information literacy services and programs
  • Incorporates active learning strategies in the classroom to support the needs of the learners, whether the instruction occurs in-person, virtual, synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid, and/or flipped.
  • Support digital scholarship and open access initiatives by providing guidance on data management, digital humanities, contributions to the institutional repository, Scholarly Commons, and other emerging trends and technologies.
  • Contribute to the General Education program by providing library sessions for assigned CORE 001 courses.
  • Serve on University and department committees, task forces, and teams, and facilitate and participate in collaborative research projects and communities with faculty, students, and other librarians, both internally and externally as appropriate.
  • Support and educate faculty, staff, and students with federally funded research.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • ALA-accredited masters degree in library or information science, or STEM (Two (2) years of full-time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school education coursework.)
  • Two (2) years of experience providing information services in an academic library setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and learning activities, including understanding of best practices such as active learning, project-based learning, or evidence-based practice to transform student learning experiences and improve student retention.
  • Passion for quality library services centered around student learning and realized through collegial partnerships.
  • Understanding of/Familiarity with current trends in information literacy and academic libraries (ex. Artificial intelligence, sustainability, open access, etc.). Specific regarding instruction to help students and faculty develop critical skills for locating, evaluating, creating, and using information effectively.
  • Experience with collection curation, including the evaluation and selection of content in print and electronic formats, and document delivery and resource-sharing services.
  • Knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) and creative ability to support faculty with OER and Affordable Learning Solution initiatives. Including knowledge of open access scholarship, transformative agreements, Subscribe to Open funding partnerships, and the ability to discuss, educate, and recommend options with faculty.
  • Facility with utilizing technology to transform research and learning experiences.
  • Ability to manage time and coordinate projects in a rapidly changing environment, with a positive, flexible, and innovative attitude.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values and strategic priorities in the library and at the University of the Pacific.
  • Commitment to collaborative teamwork and quality service.
  • Understanding of data privacy concerns, particularly in health science fields, for research subjects including the ability to navigate and advice on Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes and data management planning.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking across campus, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting, up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Some evening and weekend work is required. The Academic Support Librarian may support programs in all three campuses (Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco). The position is approximately 10% travel between university campus locations but will be based on the Stockton Campus.
Valid drivers license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the Universitys fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range: $66,560.00 - $83,799.30 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
