Academic Success Advisor
Job Description
The School of Life Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic Academic Success Advisor to join our team. This position provides academic advising to ASU Online students seeking degrees in Biological Sciences and supporting concentrations.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Online Advising, the Academic Success Advisor is primarily responsible for developing relationships with our students to help them be successful in their academic goals and degree completion. The Academic Success Advisor acts as a key contributor to promoting and supporting student retention and timely progress toward degree completion. Academic advisors provide academic assistance and individualized attention to promote each student's success through a range of in-person and virtual methods including group/individual advising meetings (phone and Zoom), email, and other proactive outreach strategies.

Salary Range
$47,000 - $50,000 Per Year; DOE
Essential Duties
- Provides 1:1 academic advising, recruitment/retention, and academic success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree program through appointments, emails, and outreach campaigns.
- Works closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to student in selection of options best suited to student's goals, interests and skills.
- Communicates via Zoom, Slack, email, Salesforce, phone appointments, and other mediums with stakeholders.
- Assists with academic program development and implementation.
- Monitors student academic progress through a variety of reporting tools including eAdvisor, degree audits, major maps, and advisor portal; works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure academic success.
- Working under limited or minimal supervision, handles problems, provides guidance and advice to students.
- As primary liaison, connects students with academic and personal resources including, but not limited to: tutoring, counseling, accessibility services, and career services. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and services throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.
- Utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Desired Qualifications
- Evidence of a Master’s degree in counseling, health sciences, or communications or related field.
- Experience in taking a holistic approach to encouraging student growth and development.
- Experience in admissions, student retention, or student services.
- Experience advising in on-campus and remote environments.
- Experience using Salesforce or email communication with students.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
- This position receives regular review of objectives by department administrator.
