Job Description

The School of Electrical Computer and Energy Engineering (ECEE) in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) is seeking an academic success specialist for the online campus BSE in Electrical Engineering. ECEE academic success specialists work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff to support academic success and degree completion. Online students receive academic advice, support and referrals from academic success specialists through phone appointments, email, video conferencing and other means. This position will be housed on the Tempe campus.

Salary Range

$35,568 - $48,500 per year; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Advising students, responding to questions and concerns, and working to ensure students can succeed and graduate by providing timely service and support
  • Providing 1:1 as well as group academic advising by phone, email and video conferencing
  • Assisting students in resolving academic issues; making appropriate and timely referrals to applicable student services
  • Participating in outreach efforts to identify and assist students needing intervention
  • Informing students on University, college and program level academic policies and procedures
  • Utilizing online tools such as Degree Audit Reporting to monitor and assist students with timely academic progress, exploration of academic opportunities, course selection and degree progress
  • Serving as a college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff and external groups on issues related to student success. 
  • Maintain accurate student electronic student records and timely student response
  • Collaborating with academic units and student service departments throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience supporting online college students
  • Experience with STEM majors; experience with distance education platforms
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience with adult learners

Working Environment

  • Uses a computer, keyboard, manipulates computer mouse, telephone, printer, fax, and copier.
  • Maintains databases and developing reports.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain calendar.
  • Communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or subject to resolution of conflicts, problem solving, and teamwork.
