About the Job

The Learning Commons provides free centralized academic support for all University of Cincinnati students. We bring together faculty, best practices in teaching and learning, and hundreds of outstanding peer educators to create flexible academic success programming.

This position will coordinate the Supplemental Instruction and Learning Assistant program and collaborate with other academic support services staff to promote student success on campus as well as oversee national certification for the SI program. Learning Assistants participate in large-lecture classrooms to help faculty create active and engaging learning spaces. Acting as a Learning Assistant (LA) allows students to build close professional connections with faculty members, review important material for their major or post-UC career, and support their peers. Learning Assistants support faculty for remote and in-person courses. Outside of class, LAs host an office hour each week. Some LAs deliver content reviews to Learning Communities each week under the oversight of this position. Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students in "historically difficult courses" - indicated by a high rate of D or F grades and withdrawals. SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of the course material and improve their grades.
