Position Summary
I. Teaching Responsibilities 
Supports delivery of curriculum-based instruction in partnership with primary college or institute liaison librarians. 
Provides continuing education and professional development instruction for health professionals. 
Leads train-the-trainer and direct instruction for community members and community outreach partners.

III. Administration and Service 
Coordinate the library’s consumer health and community engagement activities. Manage and oversee the continued development of the Consumer Health Information Resource Service (CHIRS). The position will also direct outreach to citizens of Nebraska through CHIRS, and direct collaborations with public libraries and community agencies. 
  • Manage the Consumer Health Information Resource Service, including strategic planning, assessment, and promotion. 
  • Promote McGoogan Library’s role in developing and promoting consumer health resources through community presentations and professional conferences. 
  • Design and teach educational sessions on consumer health topics, health information seeking strategies, and evaluation of internet resources. 
  • Collaborate with clinicians, educators, students, library faculty, and community partners to develop and implement strategies for community engagement, health literacy, and health equity. 

 
Serve as liaison librarian to Nebraska Medicine, Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, and designated UNMC colleges and institutes. 
  • Liaise with departments and committees involved in patient education, consumer health, and health information literacy. 
  • Provide literature searches and instruction to support the use of health sciences and biomedical research literature in education, research, and patient care settings.  
  • Liaise with UNMC partners to support community-based health outreach and health professions development programs. 

 
Represent the library internally and externally; serve on committees and working groups of McGoogan Library and UNMC
Engage in academic, instructional, and professional service activities. Work to expand the knowledge base of the field through relevant research and publications. 
The above and other duties and responsibilities shall be subject to the direction of the Associate Dean in consultation with the Dean and modified at their reasonable discretion.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution or other relevant advanced degree. 
  • Experience developing and presenting educational sessions on health information.  
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with community partners.  
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and organize projects.  
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills. 
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Ability to acquire new technological skills and resolve problems in a resourceful and timely manner.  
  • Commitment to working with diverse groups.  
  • Strong customer service orientation.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.  
Supplemental Qualifications
  • Experience providing information literacy instruction.  
  • Knowledge of information needs of health systems or health care professionals.

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
