Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Founded in 1950, our Department of Maternal and Child Health is one of the world’s leading academic departments for research, teaching and practice. We are dedicated to improving the health of women, children and families – domestically and globally. Our teaching program provides students with broad exposure to maternal and child health population needs and priorities, as well as with the skills to become leaders of tomorrow. Currently the department has 31 faculty members, 20 of whom have primary appointments in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Complementing these faculty are four emeritus members, and more than 65 adjunct faculty, many of whom hold leadership positions in MCH research and practice settings. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our department, faculty and staff research interests and activities span the full array of issues and areas of focus for the maternal and child health population. Our initiatives are designed to create new knowledge and directly improve the health of this population.
Position Summary
The Academic Program Support Specialist provides support to academic program operations, as identified by academic program directors and other faculty associated with the program. Individuals in this position will have significant engagement with faculty and with Academic Coordinators, and will also interact with students regarding funding and soliciting information for report preparation. The position typically reports to the Associate Chair for Academics or Director of Graduate Studies within an academic department.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Ability to develop and oversee processes and operations, identifying opportunities for continuous Improvement.
- Ability to gain proficiency with student information systems.
- Ability to manage priorities and deadlines effectively and with attention to detail.
- Ability to developing good relationships with faculty.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
- Ability to utilize data and develop & manage reports for use by program faculty.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Student services or student affairs positions preferred. 
* Higher education experience preferred. 
* Understanding of policies and procedures related to student and academic program tracking and reporting. 
* Strong writing skills and past experience in this particular aspect of the position is preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
