ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Department of Sociology has four academic degree programs: B.A. in Sociology; B.A. in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences (ISS), M.A. in Sociology; and Ph.D. in Sociology. Through these programs, we prepare students to succeed in an increasingly diverse world that demands skills in communication, leadership, problem solving, critical and analytical reasoning, methodological thinking, statistical analysis, and multicultural and global understanding. These skill sets align exceedingly well with the skills that 21st century employers value and seek.


POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the academic programs within the Department of Sociology. This position provides administrative coordination for graduate and undergraduate programs and works closely with Faculty Administrators on matters related to course management and enrollment. Supports student administration through HR processes, processing course permits, maintaining graduate student files and
records. Supports department administration through processing travel, PCard reconciliation, supply inventory, and purchasing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compiles and tracks course enrollment numbers across three campuses to assist faculty administrators in creating efficient and equitable schedules in a three campus department with two graduate and two undergraduate programs. Enters and maintains course information; issues course permits to graduate and undergraduate students; distributes and processes department course evaluations, disseminates results to graduate student and adjunct instructors, and maintains those records; maintains database of department course syllabi; acts liaison to other university departments for cross-listed courses; acts as a liaison to Academic Space and Course Management and the Registrar's Office.
Provide administrative support to department: provides administrative support to Academic Services Administrator, Department Chair and other faculty administrators; update department directories; manage office supplies and copier: submits office supply order and copier maintenance and invoices for payment; processes check request to Foundation and scholarship award payments to Financial Aid; manages calendar for department conference rooms; act as a back up for Academic Services Administrator.
Support of Graduate Program: recruitment of incoming graduate students, including coordination of travel and reimbursement for meals to faculty administrators; appointment paperwork for graduate teaching assistants and graduate research assistants; submission of graduate forms to CAS Graduate and Undergraduate Studies and Office of Graduate Studies.
Acts as a back up for front desk reception and other duties as assigned that support the vision and mission of the department.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with four years of experience in office or administrative positions. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
