ATTENTION:

The Department of First Year Experience at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Manager of Orientation Programs (Academic Program Manager, AE024). 

JOB DETAILS:

The Manager of Orientation Programs will serve as an integral part of the First Year Experience (FYE) department. This position will coordinate the planning and implementation of orientation programs for all new freshmen and transfer students during their first year at UW-Whitewater. The position is responsible for approximately 20 Warhawks Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) programs a year, fall and spring orientation programs (Warhawk Welcome), recruitment, supervision, and training of the orientation leadership team (Hawk Squad), and one graduate assistant. In addition, the position will assist the Director with the administration of all programs and functions of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Three or more years working in a university setting, preferably within first year experience, or related functional area.
  • Experience with supervision and training of students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with planning large-scale programs.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Experience working with the transfer student population.
  • Experience working with family members of university students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programmatic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, coordinate, and implement fall and spring orientation programs (Warhawks SOAR, Warhawk Welcome) for first-year and transfer students, establishing collaborative relationships with the Deans, Assistant Deans, Reservations, Coordinator for Adult Students, Admissions recruiters, Registrar's¿ office (Veterans' representative), Academic Advising and Exploration Center, department heads, and Advising Coordinator for each of the Academic Colleges.
  • Provide guidance, assistance, and direction to faculty, staff, students, families, and other guests in preparation for and during the orientation programs.
  • Design and facilitate orientation training for campus stakeholders (i.e., SOAR Advisors, Resident Assistants, etc.).
  • Assist with the management of a budget (approximately $200,000) for new student orientation programs.
  • Organize the responsibilities, areas for collaboration, and strategic plan for orientation across campus.
  • Devise, employ, and continually develop a comprehensive assessment plan for orientation efforts and new student programs.
  • Develop comprehensive technology, website, and social media plans for content related to orientation programs.
  • Maintain/update the online orientation program targeted to new students who are unable to attend an on-site Warhawks SOAR program. 
  • Supervision:

  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection, ongoing training, and evaluation of one graduate assistant to work specifically with orientation programs.  
  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection, ongoing training, and evaluation of approximately 10 Hawk Squad leaders (orientation leaders), making particular efforts to attract a diverse group of students to serve in this leadership role.
  • Miscellaneous:

  • Serve on University committees as appropriate (i.e., advising council, advising coordinators, etc.).
  • be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
