Job Summary:

The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) seeks an individual who is disciplinary-specific and passionate about helping students succeed in their academic and career goals in the Schools of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design. The Academic and Professional Development Advisor (Senior Advisor II) is a critical team member of the College of Architecture and Design’s Center for Student Development (CSD), supporting both the advising and teaching mission of the college.

 

The CSD serves as a centralized hub of the undergraduate population providing services from recruiting, advising, community building and career mentorship. This position provides comprehensive academic advising and supports holistic student success for undergraduate students pursuing or interested in the Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Graphic Design majors as well as the minors in Architectural Studies, Interior Architecture Studies, Design Studies, and Graphic Design Studies. Working with undergraduate design students, this position promotes academic advising as an essential tool for academic success and as a critical component of the educational experience.

 

Advising responsibilities include, though are not limited to, assisting students with course selection to meet academic and financial aid requirements, identifying experiential learning opportunities and programs that promote career development and global engagement, and supporting holistic student success towards individualized career goals. The individual will work closely with all design students, encouraging proactive engagement with creative and professional networks, and be involved in their career development advising and opportunities. In addition to advising-related responsibilities, this person will also be responsible for managing accurate registration processes for the assigned student caseload and assist, as needed, with the admissions process for the College.

 

As part of the CSD team, this individual will participate in the coordination and implementation of services related to new student and transfer orientation advising sessions, student success programming, and assist with on-campus and local recruitment activities for prospective students and their families. The position will foster students’ creative, intellectual and personal development towards academic success and will interpret and advise students on policies and procedures of the University, CoAD, and the individual Schools.

Qualifications

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related field.  

 

Experience : Two or more years professional experience working in a design/creative field and/or advising capacity, or related experience within a college or university.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: M.Arch, MLA, Master in Interior Design/Architecture, MA Graphic Design, MDes, MS in Industrial Design or Product Design.

 

Experience: Some teaching experience in higher education, working knowledge of academic advising practices and student development theory, advising experience in higher education in a professional design curriculum preferred, working knowledge of student information systems such as DARS, BANNER, Navigate, Slate or related software is preferred.
