Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit | The UNCG Department of Biology endeavors towards excellence in conducting research and teaching biological concepts and skills to biology majors and graduate students, to prepare them for professional careers and more advanced study. We introduce non-biology majors to the foundations and applications of biology. By involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, we contribute to and increase society’s knowledge across the broad spectrum of biology. We train doctoral students in Environmental Health Science, a complex and rapidly changing discipline. Through laboratory training and directed research experiences we enhance our students’ technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological world. Our leadership in scientific innovation and discovery serves our students, profession, and our local and global communities. |
Position Summary | Successful applicants will be expected to collaborate closely with the directors of graduate and undergraduate studies in creating innovative instructional curriculums and programs, and to manage the student advising process, policies, and procedures. The AP Assistant Professor will supervise research specialist staff and students and may lead the writing of proposals for external funding to support educational research or procurement of technical equipment. They may also teach up to one course per semester with a preference for general biology, microbiology, biotechnology, immunology, and virology. The following skills or ability to develop the skills are also preferred: develop a management strategy to provide technical support for research related activities, establish relationships and pathways to effectively acquire, service and maintain advanced instrumentation used in typical biology laboratories, and lead the development, writing, and maintenance of technical device use manuals, laboratory manuals, and training manuals and interpret technical information to a variety of audiences. |
Minimum Qualifications | M.S. in Biology or a related field, and considerable experience in the job-related qualifications. |
Preferred Qualifications | Ph.D. in Biology or a related field. |
